Unless the 7 year old car is from a close relative or friend and you know the condition of the car or else it can be a total nightmare.

My friend bought an old Merc S-Class around 7 Years Old, ended up spend more time in the workshop than driving it. Gave up and bought a new Lexus.

Either I one time decide to change or let it slowly break down then change.
10K + 20K(40k/2) say COE for five years total is $30K
New car is 100k or 50k for five years
(COE can deduct) so maybe $5k

So renew COE 5 years still make some sense
also cash upfront is 20k nia
Loan for new car is now like 50%? so up front cash is 50k?

This make sense but given your mileage at 200k will have quite a handful of replacement parts, unless mileage of 120k make a better choice to renew.

My relative wanted to buy over my coming 9 year old but low mileage car to extend, as he likes this model very much and knows I already spent a lot on repairs. But after I gave him a rundown on other parts that are starting to wear down, he backed off.

Gone were the time that cars are simply made to drive only, now computerize here computerize there.
My old model Vitara change aircon compressor at $550 at normal workshop, my friend's new model Vitara got to go for reprograming then can function after changing the compressor which prevent him from going outside workshop. He spend a total of $2k plus to change.

You mean the new 1.6 vitara? That is one of my 'plan b' car (in case I can't find a 7 seater) next to the XV and impreza hatch.

The new impreza HB looks good, from far look like Volvo V40. I bluff my wife the other day, look new volvo!

Let's speculate a little...
Current renewal based on Aug PQP of $44,081.

If 2nd bidding goes up to:
- $40,000, Sept PQP will be $42,080
- $42,000, Sept PQP will be $42,414

Paying late payment still quite worth it. Unless Bidding hits $50k, than there's no real savings. second bidding no guarantee will stay low since there is a rush of buyers gg to showroom since e 1st bidding plummet.
