Crayfish!

Hi!

Always wanted to rear some crayfish but never really gotten to it.
Perhaps someone could guide me along here.

I have a 2ftx1ft tank back from keeping shrimp.
But shrimps don't grow too large so I still prefer crayfish

Anyone knows where I get buy preferably blue coloured crayfish - if possible, in the North?
Would be good if they don't require chiller/cooling or any special tank conditions.

I was at Y934 some months back but only see red crayfish on sale.

Crayfish are quite easy to keep since they eat anything. Are you planning on keeping more than one? Do note that they can be territorial and will fight to the death unless there are many hiding places for them to call their own. Also, they are notorious for escaping so make sure your tank is tall enough to prevent that. My 8" blue crayfish regularly tried stretching to the top of my 1 ft tall tank. Or sometimes he would climb on top of my internal filter and sit above the water level if he was unhappy with water quality. Very cute but also something to be careful about.

One more thing, since you're experienced in keeping shrimp, you should know that just like shrimp, crayfish may have moulting problems so it'll be good if you dose a little iodine monthly. So far I've seen some blue crayfish at That Aquarium but not always. Also Seaview at seletar farmway has some every now and then.

Thanks Tuajia.

I would probably get 2 small ones for a start and partition the tank into 2 1ftx1ft areas - then maybe get a second tank if the crayfish successfully grow up.

Tank height not an issue for now I guess although yea they may climb out via the filter tube/pipe so maybe I will mesh the top.

Or if you're lucky, you may end up with actual and they may start breeding like mad haha. Or if you go for Mexican dwarf crayfish, they are small, sociable and don't fight.

Went to Y618 but no blue ones in stock so bought 2 orange ones.
