red kelahs are normally darker scaled than the silver ones(which are commonly also known as green kelahs) but i guess when they are small,it will be harder to tell the difference.. when they grow to about 5-6 inches plus, the green kelahs will be much more silvery as compared to the red ones.. as for lfs selling small ones i think qh has got some selling at 15 bucks. try your luck ther brother!

I've having a silver or green Kelah. Note the stark and distinct difference in red ones and mine. Relah suspose to have gold / red scales and red finnnages. Silver/green/blue ones have their body in silver with finnages in green or blue (i've not seen any silver ones though except for the indian mahseer). Note that kelah is commonly mistaken for sebrau (which have a black spot on top) and tengahs which have red and black tip tails. I'm not an expert but have searched over the web in the past months to learn to tell the different kelah varieties. BTW, the largest and most beautiful kelah seems to be the Indian Mahseer (or Kelah) see here to be amazed and not the Malaysian Red Kelah. Both is classified as inexportable. Cheers and happy learning. |
