After that I added 0.1% salt and aro recovered after 2 days. Did another 30% water change after that. Now aro happily swimming around and back to the usual habit of disturbing my other fishes liao...

I'm not sure about using OS for over the years many switched back to CC. Have some common issue brought up by bros who used OS before is that chip scales problem. I have been a CC user since day one and never encounter chip scales for I replace my CC once I notice the drop of ph after a few months depending on your bioload and also the amount you are using in there.
Your issue can be easily solved by replacing all your CC and do water change that's all. No medication needed. |

Don't over kill with water changing as well for too much water changed the filtration will be affected. Just keep it as 30% per week will do. Once everything been done, those chipped area will grow back nicely. |

Doing a small regular WC, actually regulating constant water condition and @ the same time also will reduce free floating microbes level in the main tank. Adding salt, it'll wipe out many/most free floating microbes, it'll de-hydrate fishes, they'll slime (fishes) to block off osmosis (the lost of body fluid) Beyond, the bb's matrix will also does de...Imo, prolong saline condition will not be good, it'll will gradually degrade the bio-filtration, a sudden changes in salinity (zero) will sometime kill fishes due to water intoxication, if not, sometime suay suay the bio load from the up rooted bio-filtration will get to them (fish) oso will up lolly. Lau jiau can play magic wor~, Sin jiau play tragic... |

I faced this issue many times last time when bioload super high. Definitely water issue. Can see the whitish stuff and scales rotting away. If just chipped scales then high likely is cc need to be change and water issue. Just clear some life stock and bioload reduce so will not face this prob beside regular wc.

The bio filtration, it's actually a bacteria reproduction center, there's no definition/restriction particularly a certain strain (bacteria) u're culturing. Imo, it's better to restrict the regeneration within the region (sump la, Ohf la and simi canister la. etc.) by mean of processing the water via a UVc lamp before the water reaches the main tank. This'll certainly help with many un necessary future problem arises from bacteria infection issue.
There's no acception, a regular small WC and maintenance is essential, the intervention will renew/replenish lost ion due to exchanges. There's a saying de "prevention is better than cure" Dun wait till shit come out than action mah... |
