as the use of baking soda, you need to know what is your current pH in your tank first as baking soda once added, will change your water pH very fast (if added too much). Ideal pH is between 7-8 for goldfish.

don't anyhow add baking soda without knowing current pH.
Yes, I agree with bro Heur, no pleco please, keep GFs with GFs and no other fishes.

Mike & Andmay, just keep water clean and make do with whatever tank/s u have. Imagine a room with 5 persons in it, as long as you keep the room clean, neat and well ventilated, you will still be able to have some comfy living inside, likewise, gf or fishes are the same. They may NOT grow as fast as if they're living in a HUGE tank but they can still survive well if water conditions are met. Unless you are keeping predatory or aggressive fishes, then small tank is a no no as they will kill each other with small confinement.

From my experiences, IMHO, keeping fishes cannot be rushed. Most of us tend to start with a small tank and keep few fishes and gain more experiences as time goes by. As time goes by, we'll tend to expand our little hobby and spend more money/time/effort into it. Slowly but surely. Patience is the key to success buds.

Hi bros, any bros tried keeping gfs in much bigger size tank.
Having this issue, wondering to kickstart my 6ftx2.5x2.5 for ranchus.

Is the tank to big and too deep for the gfs to survive ?
Previously, kept all gfs in 2, 3 or 4ft the most, not till 6ft tankset.

Please advise, as my current tank is empty. if it pose no issue, might get ranchus to keep. Also whats the Qty to get.

Thanks in advance.

The problems I foresee is water change and the depth of the water.

depth is easy to resolve by not filling all the way up. I think 1.5 feet depth will be just nice.

as GF needs freq water change, you really need to be more hardworking with such large tank.

the general rule is 20 gal per fish.

I think its going to be impressive with such a big tank fill with GF!!
Hope to see your new setup soon.

I am currently considering a 4x1.5x1.5 and 3x1.5x1.5. Can all experienced friends in AF please advise which tank is suitable for my 5GFs? I am thinking 3ft maybe enough but at the same time afraid that they may grow bigger and soon I will need to upsize again. I don't intend to get anymore new fish. Juz stick to the 5.

Thanks for all your time!

Bro, this is my experience. I keep my Ranchu in tub, not tank, but I think there is no difference.
I begin with 3 x 2 guppy tub, expanded to 4 x 3, then 5 x 3, then 6 x 3.
Now I have a 4 x 3, 5 x 3 and 6 x 3. While my 3 guppy tubs are all spare in my store room!
Hope it's poisonous and helps?
