For filter media, my suggestion is just wool and biohome will do. You may want to add mayb a black sponge/similar in the 1st compartment (wool compartment) to cushion the rushing water to prevent splashing/spillage (unless u modify the outlet), only if u have such a problem. Skimmer preferable in the 2nd compartment.

High levels of po4 inhibits calcification(which is bad if you want coralline algae to grow or into hard corals) and encourages nuisance algae to grow.

Fluidized reactor itself does not remove po4, it is the po4 removal media placed within it that removes the po4. The design of the reactor is to maximize the usage of the media and improve po4 removal.

If your going for a reef tank and can afford the budget & space for a fluidized reactor, it would be good to have one.

thank you davidw for your info . . . many people put wool and live rock at first compartment. then follow ny skimmer . . .

hmm my first compartment is quite big . i think my first compartment might put live wool, live rock and bio balls to fill in the gap of the live rock. if bottom got space then might put coral chip to increase ph . . .. ?

2nd compartment i think i can try put skimmer and rest of the space can put live rock or other things. . . haha .
i DIY a 3rd compartment out to put those expensive bio home and othe bio product. last will be my returm sump that have chiller, uv light, and cheatom if got space then consider Fluidized Reactor. hahaa

Not sure how much does a fluidized reactor with pump cost, never bought one before.

If your keen to venture into hard corals, a calcium reactor will help maintain calcium & kH levels instead of having to dose chemicals on a regular basis to maintain levels. If your more into soft corals, IMO, would suffice to use additives to maintain calcium & kH levels.

Coral chips don't really dissolve readily in saltwater to maintain pH as the natural pH of a marine tank is around 8.3. Its better to maintain pH through the use of additives to maintain a proper calcium & kH level.

Here are some pics of my sump to give you an idea:
Overall look

Ignore the bag and 2pcs of rock, I poured too much po4 removal media into the bag so i ended up using it in the 4ft instead of 2ft as it can't fit into the hang-on filter compartment without choking the water flow.

Compartment 1, filter:

I only have some liverock in there along with filter wool. Looks like i remembered wrongly, i have 5pcs in there.
This is the overall setup:

I only have rocks + sand in the maintank for filtration.

ic ic wao that simple hee hee.

coral chip does not helps in maintain ph . . . is there any reason that people put that in their sump??
coz i see quite a few do that including the person that sell me his tank and some fish shop etc. . . .

Yup, in terms of filtration you can keep it that simple.

It could be a case of personal preference as some do believe it does help maintain the pH but IMO for marine doesn't help too much. If the pH is allowed to fall to levels that cause coral chips to dissolve readily to raise the pH, your tank could be in deep trouble already.

Others use it as a biological filter media but IMO not as good as using liverocks or biohome. The main reason is that coral chips lack dentrification properties.
