Water turned brown after adding Sea Chem De Nitrate
Dear Shifus,
In order to reduce the nitrate level, I added Sea Chem De Nitrate into the sump filter. However, the water turned brown (very brown) the next day. After a few days, it turned back to colourless. One week after, the water turned brown after I added some bacteria powder. Should I remove the De Nitrate or wait till it turn colourless again. I do not understand this. Hope that someone can guide me here.. Thanks! X. |

I've 4L of Denitrate in my filter and never had that issue before.
Just a piece of advice, Denitrate is only effective if used in a slow flow environment. Otherwise, it would not have enough exposure time to allow the anaerobic bacteria to digest the nitrate. |

Why resort to adding commercial products when you can simply do WC to reduce the nitrate level?
