Default Dealing with extremely skinny arowana... Give in or persist with dietary change?

I willing bought a very bad shape, skinny fish about 4 weeks ago and it's still not eating (pork, herring, sotong, whitefish).
I'm mentally prepared this fish might die 😨 anytime from its condition(can't even maintain buoyancy when another fish swims pass) but as time passes, I notice it's getting more active, swimming around looking for food 😁
Everytime I throw food in, he will be the first to attack but will split it out and swim away.
Previous owner told me he fed mp but I had a hard time weaning my comm from mp and super worms so should I just give in so I can make that particular fish start eating or persist?
No stress, bullying in the comm. I'm actually hoping the comm feeding can trigger it's appetite.
Thank you.
