Saw on local popular discount deal email yesterday, CRS haven is selling "semi-closed" ecosphere on discounted price.

These opae-ula (Hawaiian Red Shrimp) are the most hardy shrimps in town.
Water? Pure Freshwater OK, Seawater OK, Brackish OK-ideal.

Food? Algae eater, just add a brackish moss, it will last them a lifetime.

Lifetime, if you are lucky, one of them can survive up to 15-20 years.

Yes it can be done. I have my pico tank with soil and spiky moss for 2 years in my office. No filter and no changing of water, i have a small clip on light only. I do weekly water top up using diamond filter water from the pantry and alternate day feeding. Started with 4 cherry shrimps and now 30+ and still counting . I recently added a bumble bee nerite snail to help clean the glass, so for the pass 3 weeks i don't need to wipe the glass anymore.

The birth rate is low although frequent, could be a result of the restricted environment though.

Can you live in your room w attached toilet and not flush your toilet bowl? Yes, but not so ideal. Same applies to shrimps. Filter is where the bioload is filtered away and broken down by BB. BUT i still don't agree with small tanks. I still subscribe to 2ft or larger, not that small tanks don't work.

haven - a place of safety or sanctuary; shelter
So, the shop's name CRS Haven is supposed to be a haven for shrimps. Ecohell isn't a haven for shrimps. I stop going there.

Keeping pets also includes providing them with a reasonable healthy environment. Ecohell environment isn't considered reasonable to me, so I boycott what I don't agree with.
