And remember to be patience, The maturing of your tank will take anywhere from 1 ~ 3 month. During this period, MUST monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels which will shoot up to very high level before coming down to zero, after this, your tank is considered mature or cycled.

If your tank already cycled, then will the beneficial bacterias die if you put medication in the tank? Say your fish sick or what...u put antibiotics...then got to cycle again?

Normal practice will be putting the sick fish into a hospital tank. This will isolate the disease from infecting the other fishes and also protect the BB colonies.

Ok got that! Thanks!

Something else I need to clarify. Lets say a few of my goldfish got finrot, the others are ok. I remove the affected ones and put in quarantine tank and medicate. Now the question is what to do with the main tank.

Will the water in the main tank be affected with the finrot dissease already? if the water is infected then can do water change but presumably all the tank walls, filter elements, and ceramic rings (for bacterial culture) also infected liowz?

Then how? Do water change enough or do we need to put some anti bacteria med to 'sterilise' the main tank? (then the problem of killing the nitrobacters arises again).

What is the best approach in such cases ?

for the main tank... check water parameters to see any improvement can be made. then salt it at 0.1% and keep your fingers crossed.
