Glucose tolerance test I find not practical for real life use though it's textbook SOP.

Refer to
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycated_hemoglobin

All the major institutions like International Expert Committee Report, drawn from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the European Association for the Study of diabetes (EASD), and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), suggests the HbA1c level of 48 mmol/mol (6.5 DCCT %) as a diagnostic level.[38] The Committee Report further states that, when HbA1c testing cannot be done, the fasting and glucose tolerance tests be done.

Diagnosis of diabetes during pregnancy continues to require fasting and glucose tolerance measurements for gestational diabetes, and not the glycated hemoglobin.

Check out

HbA1c or Glycated Hemoglobin is most reliable test for confirming diabetes. HbA1c measurement has a central role in management of diabetes. HbA1c levels can be directly related to the risk of development of diabetic complications.
Moh guidelines for HBA1C seems very different.
Non diabetic 4.5-6.4
Optimal 6.5-7.0
Sub optimal 7.1-8.0
Unacceptable 8.1-15.0

A change of lifestyle is required if someone is to start controlling sugar intake

Anything that is added sugar is a strict no-no, example:
1. starbucks or tea leafs and coffee - their coffee are loaded with sugar. best if order coffee black and you chose to add one packet of brown sugar (max)
2. no soft drinks on all other days except one day in a week and that is limited to a can of 330 ml coke
3. if you order coffee from kopitiam - always a teh-c or kopi-c less sugar
4. sports drinks are loaded with sugar as well. if you don't exercise, don't drink.

And don't forget to exercise
