U may need to get a heater guard to prevent burns to the disc of the ray.
Generally motoros can tolerate a decent range of pH BUT must be stable pH without fluctuation. Also ammonia and nitirites must be 0! Beware ammonia spike if your setup already has high bioload.

8.5 its a wee bit too high, esp if you have an ammonia spike

my tank is small, bioload on the high side.

Therefore... WC ard twice a week.

I dun use aged water. Tap water + Nutrafin + salt (mind you, rays can kena salt burn easily, as well as clorine burn, so.. be careful, yeah?)
Tank has wood and plants, and coral chips in the filter.

on a personal note

No right or wrong in keeping fishes.

as long as the fish is alive and eating, and moving ard, and looking fat, my guess is wad has been done so far is ok

forgot to add.
How different people keep their fishes to different results with different resources differ too.
Some people have all the time in the world to do 5%-10% WC everyday, some dun change for ages, and of coz.. results is different, la...
