Default Can we washed the used media in our sump tank

If my sump tank media such as cc or cr is dirty, can we use our tap water and wash it and then put back into the sump tank? would the water become dirty or cloudy after that?

Do not use tap water as all the BB will be killed....use yr existing tank water to flush and then put back into yr sump....

I usually switch off the return pump and then agitate the media to suspend all the dirt in the water. after that, I'll siphon away the dirty water with as much dirt as possible.

I'll then fill water (with water conditioner) into the main tank which will then overflow down to sump. Switch on the pump again when the sump is filled.

Wash them in portions using your tanks water.
After a few years, consider changing them in portions

if got chance to use tank water then use. otherwise just use tapwater and rinse. matured BB colonies bounce back fast. reduce feeding for a couple of days for BBs to multipy.

can always buy commercial BB and add in a couple of cap according to the recommended dosage with your tank during each WC regime.
