Selection and Choice of Red
Hi all bros!
Finally got a chance to join the Red family. Will be trying dreamfish and lucky for a Red next month. However, maybe wanna get to know a bit more before I go on a rampage in the farms... Looking for emperor fins type and spoon, best is with Violet base and thin frame Please advises... 1. Types of red? 2. Size to evaluate for potential candidates based on my criteria? 3. Other pointers? Currently owned a hb for 15 yrs... Cheers |

Same as you I also own my one and only RTG for 15 years and just recently got a few pieces of reds and xback since late last year as the prices were attractive.
Mine were Shelook reds and I really pleased with the development.

Abit uncanny to see someone (above post) NICK like mine lolz
I just setup my tank last night and I am also looking for a red to keep. For me, I am not particularly into any farm and brand. Red means red. (super red, blood red, chilli red, Violet fusion blah blah are just marketing gimmick) I have keep a few reds previously (gave up due to parenthood) but decided to keep aro again As long as the features (juvenile size) are good; such as perfect jaw, straight barbel, long pectoral fin and swimming postures. I will go for it. |

Specifically this entails swimming with their pectorals "open" as much as possible and not clamped tightly to their side. The anal, dorsal and caudal should also be "open" and not compressed. I have found that this trait is more prominent in reds than golds. Of course this is also in addition to the important things such as no DE, PLJ, uneven scales or other defects. I believe the reference to a perfect jaw would mean no PLJ (protruding lower jaw) or shark mouth (lower jaw shorter than usual and not covering the upper lip) as well as a straight bite (not misaligned jaws) Hope this helps Am also going hunting for a new red or xb this weekend. |
