The base color of a BDS is actually blue, not black. But its so dark that it looks black. Something like very dark navy blue.
That why snow whites have a bluish tint, cos they have the BDS gene. So when the shrimps are stressed, the color fades, and the dark navy blue becomes just blue. Of course there're real blue shrimps as well, but those are no easy to come by |

Just to add, the current true blue shrimps are blue bolt, blue tiger and blue bee.
Google their pictures and you'll see that the pattern is not the same as yours. Price and value also not the same heheheh |

They may turn to black within days to 2 week, if the water is suitable for them. However, you may be lucky to get stablised blue crs. |

For Blue bee, in some condition, the blue will turn to grey or black.

cause by my logic, those are shrimps living in same tank, same food, same light, same water conditions. that leads me to another set of questions, i hope u guys can enlighten me. 1. i got brownish-maroon colored ones in my tank as well. what are those then? 2. could color differences be due to poor water conditions? but none of my shrimps are dying. all healthy and kicking. 3. back to the same question, how can i know if the blue CRS already stabilised? 4. is it good to isolate berried shrimps/higher grade shrimps ? |
