Default Salah wins CL Goal of the Week award

Mohamed Salah's deft dink versus Manchester City has won the Champions League Goal of the Week award.

The Liverpool forward saw off competition from his teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Luis Suarez (FC Barcelona) and Mario Mandzukic (Juventus) to take the prize, which covers all quarter-final matches.

Salah displayed ice-cool composure to lift the ball over City goalkeeper Ederson and grab a vital equaliser and away goal in the Reds' 2-1 second-leg win at Etihad Stadium last week.

Jürgen Klopp's team eventually advanced 5-1 on aggregate and will play AS Roma in the semi-finals.

Default Marko Grujic tipped to have a 'big role' at Liverpool next season

Marko Grujic has been backed to make an impact at Liverpool next season – with claims Jurgen Klopp views the midfielder part of his long-term plans.

Grujic has yet to start a Premier League game since becoming Klopp's first signing as Reds boss in January 2016.

The Serbia international, who was 22 on Friday, has been on loan at Cardiff City since January and has played a key part in taking the Bluebirds to the brink of promotion from the Championship.

Grujic has appeared in 13 out of 16 games since moving to South Wales, although he was an unused substitute in Saturday's 2-0 win at Norwich City that moved Neil Warnock's side within nine points of the Premier League.

Dejan Lovren has been keeping tabs on his Liverpool team-mate and believes Grujic has improved his first-team chances at the Reds by temporarily dropping down a division.

“I'm really glad for Marko that it is going well at Cardiff and hopefully they will be in the Premier League next season,” said Lovren.

“He hadn't been playing here and is still young so I think it was the right decision for him to go to Cardiff to get some minutes on the pitch.

“I saw his goal against Barnsley and I'm really happy for him that he is doing well there.”

Lovren, talking in Liverpool's matchday programme, added: “Going from the Serbian league to Premier League was a big step for him so I think the first year-and-a-half was about adaptation.

“Hopefully he will be fine for next season to play a big role here because I know the manager is thinking about him for the future.”

Default Harry Wilson's Liverpool future undecided as Hull City make claim for next season

Liverpool youngster Harry Wilson will be at Hull City next season – if Tigers boss Nigel Adkins has his way.

Wilson has been in outstanding form since move to the Championship side on loan in January.

The 21-year-old has scored five goals and contributed three assists in eight starts to help ease Hull away from the relegation zone.

Wilson's form earned him his second full international cap for Wales during which he scored his first goal for his country in a 6-0 win in China.

And Hull boss Adkins is increasingly confident the winger will return to the KCOM Stadium after spending the summer with Liverpool.

“The four lads who have been on loan have done great but they’ll go back to their parent clubs and do their pre-season with them,” he said.

“They’ll decide if they’re going to stay in the first-team group or, as they should do, go and get vital match experience in the Championship.

“I’d love that to be at Hull City because I’d like to think the clubs can see that the work we do with them gives them the opportunity to develop.

“I’d like to think we’ve got a good track record for helping players develop.”

Asked about Wilson in particular, Adkins added: “I think he’ll be playing for Hull City in the Championship but that’s me being positive.”

Default Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have a staggering goalscoring record in their sights

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are going for goals - more of them than any other Liverpool team has scored in the club's history.

The three goals the Reds plundered against Bournemouth on Saturday were the 119th, 120th and 121st goals Liverpool have scored in all competitions this season.

In only three campaigns in history has a Liverpool team scored more - and all three are within catching distance of Klopp's free-scoring side.

Even more staggeringly, Klopp's Liverpool has scored 121 goals in just 49 matches - a more prolific strike rate than either of the three seasons which are currently above them, Gerard Houllier's treble winners of 2001, Bob Paisley's League and League Cup winners of 1982 and King Kenny's Double winning team of 1986.

Houllier's treble winners scored at a rate of 2.02 goals per game, Paisley's champions 2.08 and Dalglish's double winners 2.19.

Klopp's team is currently scoring a rate of 2.47 goals per game and with a potential seven matches still remaining can become the top scorers of all-time.

The Reds have scored three or more goals 16 times in the league this campaign.

Klopp's side are the Champions League top scorers this season with 33 goals in 10 games and the remaining Premier League fixtures offer potential for more goals, with games against struggling West Brom and Stoke City before ending the season at home to against Premier League minnows Brighton.

With Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all in good goalscoring form, it would almost be a surprise if Liverpool didn't end up scoring the 18 goals to make history.

138 (1985/86)

The highest scoring Liverpool team of all-time didn't have European competition to bolster its tally - although it did have the ill-fated Screen Sports Super Cup.

The Reds scored 12 goals in 1985/86 in that short-lived competition (the final was held over until the following season!) but also reached the League Cup semi-final and won the FA Cup.

Top scorer was Ian Rush with 33 goals, while Jan Molby perhaps unexpectedly followed him with 21. Paul Walsh, Ronnie Whelan and Steve McMahon all managed double figures during the most goal laden season in Reds history.

TOP SCORER: Who else? Ian Rush.

TOP SCORING PERFORMANCE: A 6-0 slaying of Oxford at Anfield in March 1986.

129 (1981/82)

Rush and Dalglish were in their absolute prime during Paisley's fifth title winning season, their telepathic majesty creating and finishing so many Reds moves.

Rush top scored with 30 goals, with Dalglish adding 22. Terry McDermott also hit the 20 goals mark while Ronnie Whelan was the only other player to reach double figures.

TOP SCORER: Who else? Ian Rush

TOP SCORING PERFORMANCE: A 7-0 stroll against the Finnish minnows of Oulo Palloseura in the European Cup first round.

127 (2000/01)

Liverpool's ruthlessness in front of goal saw them lift an unprecedented trophy treble - League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup, with FIVE of Liverpool's final tally of 127 coming in the UEFA Cup final against Alaves, the winning goal only occasion an English team has celebrated a 'Golden Goal' in Europe.

Michael Owen was top scorer (24), but received spectacular support from Emile Heskey (22) who was only two goals behind, and Robbie Fowler, who scored 17. Steven Gerrard and Danny Murphy also hit double figures.

TOP SCORER: Not Ian Rush. It was Michael Owen.

TOP SCORING PERFORMANCE: A remarkable 8-0 victory, away at Stoke City in the League Cup.
