Sump sequence

My first compartment is biohome and a japmat under it. The GS live among the BH. 2nd compartment is filter wool and CR under it. 3rd is CR and then sponge mat. Any spare CR is in the pump compartment.

I used to get choking problem when I put filter wool in the first compartment.

Should I put air pump/stone in sump? Heard that it will benefit the bacteria.
I've read some even put sponge filter

It's up to you. Some people are worried about stagnant surface breeding mosquito so the airstone is also useful for that.

Since you mentioned adding air pumps perhaps you might want to consider K1 moving media too. Many youtube demos to watch.

Will k1 be better than marinepure and mraqua media?

me think choice of media is very subjective.
Need to try to know which one most suitable for u.

Tat's why.. everyone's sump most prob will be diff and we learn new things everyday, esp when the spouse is away...

Is it a good idea to grow some plants in sump?

most plants need sunlight.
Mine is cabinet sump. only can grow snails and Drain flies and recently I've been relocating all spiders in there as well.

Will need to add a light in the sump for the plants. Might as well float some money plant in you main tank.
