I have never checked my water hardness. To measure water hardness, i need to use TDS meter is it? I juz checked PUB website and it state range of 68-270 for the TDS. How u achieve 6.5 for the water hardness?

Male age unknown. D pair always spawn every week or two for the past 2 month.

As for the rest saying that it could be the male problem, my male first time gunshot, 90% success with fries hatched but got eaten. 2nd time onwards, suddenly drop until so low. Can even count the hatched fry with 2 hands. Is it possible that a fertile male can suddenly have problem with his sperm?

Spawning every week might be a bit siong for the male.

Might "exhaust energy" very fast.

By the way, the eggs hatched as in low percentage or the eggs hatched but the fries dont survive long ?

Get a GH (General Hardness) tester and a PH tester and check your breeding tank water parameters using these kits. I used Discus Buffer from seachem to achieve GH of around 53.7ppm at ard 6.5 to 6.8 PH. The water in my block once spike up to around 110ppm for GH at 8 PH with 0.5mg ppm ammonia straight from the tap ...

Generally, i will look at water first as you have achieved 90% success rate of eggs fertility before so unless the male discus starts to catch up with age or not interested in spawning anymore , more likely is a water issue imo. However, there may be many other possibilities as well.

Low percentage in the number of egg hatched.

Test kits range between $13 ~$17 and the discus buffer from seachem cost ard $25 for 1kg bottle which can use for up to 2500 gallons of water.
