My new 3 ft setup
Hi to all,
This is my new setup after cleaning the former algae infested tank. Not sure what more plants to add. Thinking of mosses but me still a newbie. Looking for advice from all members out there: 1) These plants are just planted for one day. Guess need 2 weeks or 3 weeks before intoducing nutrients/fertilizer. 2) Should i introduce mosses. Is it easy? 3) Should i plant more plants? 4) Should i turn off my heater? It was set at 27 degrees. (At the moment 1 pair of Discus - Pigeon blood strain, about 10 Tetras and 3 Octo is in the tank). 5) Should i introduce shrimps in the tank? 6) What type of fertilizer is good? Root sticks? Fertilizer balls or liquid? (Nana in tank) Hope you guys can offer some help. Thanks. Pics a bit blur (mobile phone) Last edited by aebesis; 23-07-2006 at 05:34 PM. |

1. Guess you can put liquid fertilizer like seachem flourish once you setup the plant, no need to wait for 2 weeks. But I support base fertlizer too. But if you keep plants like nana, jave fern, and moss, dun think u nee base fertilizer. 2. I'm not an expert. But moss is not that fuzzy. maybe other bro can comment. 3. Better plant more in the beginning, help to cycle the tank faster. 4. I'm not sure if you need heater, unless you put it in aircon room. Normal Singapore weather should make the temp around 30deg. That's why lots of people need fan or chiller to bring down the temp. not heater... 5. Put more yamatos, but better to wait 2 weeks before putting any fish or shrimp in. or maybe you can put malayan shirmp first, cheap and hardy. if those shirmps can not make it, better wait. 6. There plenty out there, check it out from LFS. Not sure which one is the best. Cheers, Ed Last edited by kuple; 23-07-2006 at 11:14 PM. |

I would suggest you remove the heater, unless your room temperature is so cold that you need a heater to warm the water.
Water temperature of your tank should be around 28-30 if you are not in an aircon room. So setting the temp of 27 on your heater is pointless. Maybe you can consider having fan. |

Sure Yamato will eat new shoots?
Anyway, thanks for the tips contributed so far. Really appreciate it. |
