I think as with most monster fishes, initial growth is fast... after that a slowdown and after a certain size, it kinds of slows till you can barely see the growth.

Adding on in a Tank environment vs natural unlimited volume of moving water...
there's some studies tat show fishes limit their growth when the space is smaller (unless there's constant WC)
