Dealing with extremely skinny arowana... Give in or persist with dietary change?
I willing bought a very bad shape, skinny fish about 4 weeks ago and it's still not eating (pork, herring, sotong, whitefish).
I'm mentally prepared this fish might die 😨 anytime from its condition(can't even maintain buoyancy when another fish swims pass) but as time passes, I notice it's getting more active, swimming around looking for food 😁 Everytime I throw food in, he will be the first to attack but will split it out and swim away. Previous owner told me he fed mp but I had a hard time weaning my comm from mp and super worms so should I just give in so I can make that particular fish start eating or persist? No stress, bullying in the comm. I'm actually hoping the comm feeding can trigger it's appetite. Thank you. |

Bro, you are very kind and caring.
But the aro in question is really in some bad shape. More like stunned growth too. Be patient with it. |

normally i would say 4 weeks is nothing for a healthy adult aro, but yours is already very skinny and stunted, so i wouldnt starve it any further. if ur current aros are already used to a non mp/sw diet they shouldnt stop taking their current diet even if fed with mp.
btw did u check your water parameters? i find the main cause of aros that are hungry but chewing n spitting out is due to something off with the water. try it's normal diet of mp... if it eats then no issues. a healthy aro in a comm will learn to eat whatever the rest are eating sooner or later. if it still doesnt take mp, and u dont find anything wrong with ur water, then dose prazi. |

Would be better if you can isolate it to groom it back to health before returning it to the tank.
There might be internal infection affecting its eating, reason behind the spitting of swallowed food. Arowanas dont try to swallow things it dont want to eat. I guess this fish wants to eat, but some irritation is causing it to spit the food. isolate it in a tank with clean water and lots of aeration. try to deworm it with some of those products out there. eg, those deworming products for rays.

Thank you.
I will do a prazi deworm for the whole tank again. The last time I did was exactly prior to adding this Xb. Then I will use Dr Ong's method for all my other tanks too. |
