Default Air pump below water level?

For a tank on the top tier of a 2 tiers stand, if I place my air pump on floor level is there any risk? Box said pump must be at above water level.

Once there is a stoppage of power supply, the water in ur tank will reverse n enter ur pump, then ur pump will spoil.. U can go to any LFS to buy.. "Checkvalve"..

I think there no problem if you attached the airtube to airstone. Cos I dun think water can enter the airstones and flowback to your pump. All my air pumps for the past yrs in this hobby had be on the floor.

There will be a back flow due to pressure, liken to bro kenry said.

Agreed there will be a back-flow when power-off..
Secondly ,,,you are working the air-pump much harder if u placed the pump below water-level.
if the lenght is too long, you might not even get the air-stone to "bubble"

Siphon effect. Above H2O level is always recommended.

below is ok, make 2 -3 loop on the tubing at the top before bring the tube to the air outlet.

to test whether there is back flow, start pump and then stop the pump, remove the yubing to see if there is back flow

We normally have a siphon effect if water is sucked beyond the inverted U or tube is filled with water. If your pump suddenly stopped if your tubing have an big inverted U should not have a siphon effect unless the pump is sucking the water or water push back because of pressure capiliary effect and the diaphram is not air tight as is leaky. Most of the pump having back flow is because the diaphram is leaky. Try this out before we say there is a problem.

Trust me

What u need to do in set up1) buy a long tube of 2 metre

2) If your pump is below water level and tank, connect tubing and link all the way to yr tank.

3) at the top of your tank, click a teckko cloth Clip and loop 3-4 loops on the tubing before leading to the tank

4) start the pump running.

To test whether there is back flow
5) Disconnect the tubing from the pump

6) Look att the tank, u may notice water flowing via back pressure in the tubing immediatley like a blood test flow within the tubing in the tank....

7) See if it clear the first loop / 2nd Loop and / 3rd lopp as yr tecko cloth clip is supposed to be higher than yr tank water level.

8) a simple longer tubing and teck kop cloth clip will do the trick.....
of course if yr pump has weak airflow , then u will have losses with long tubing....
