Just got a congo puffer today from a bro here.
Will it be okay to keep it in a bare tank (no sand) and provide hiding places like PVC pipe? Thanks in advance. |

I would recommend fine sand as substrate, because they like to burrow. This will also provide them with more opportunity to hunt down their prey.

I'm keeping 2 figure 8 puffers in a 2.5" bare tank with overhead filter . Water change 30% twice weekly with antichlorine . Can any bro adv why my figure 8 puffers not eating /quite little only . I've tried market prawns/live feeder prawn ($2/packet fm 328) and even snails .. No visible overgrown bugg teeth . When i bought the fish, they were eating quite well for a week .

Maybe due to internal parasite, can look into previous puffer thread for step to step treatment.

I am not sure about it, but thought the salt water food will have lesser bacteria because of the presence of salt in their environment.
But I do wonder if the puffer eat too many salt wAter food, will it be getting too much salt in it's diet. |

There's sure to be some levels of salinity in saltwater seafoods but i personally think it should be fine. Also, i highly doubt the bacteria can survive, especially after you've washed it and put it in the freezer.

Need a little help on my figure 8 puffer. I heard that if puffers have a white round belly, it means they're doing well but my puffer seems to have black belly for most of the time. Had that puffer for more than 1 month already and I only seen it with white belly for like thrice. Is it because of my tank size, which I admit it's a little small for puffer of it's size.
Anyway, the tank of it is now empty(only with a sunken barrel where it can hide). I removed all the gravels and plants because it's growing some worms and bugs. Noticed 3 kinds of bugs last time. Here's a picture of my f8 puffer. |
