Aiyah, all the "firefins" brought from CF2007 till now even from other source no "FIRE" one, count ourselves lucky if we're able to get them with a little orange in the pectoral and tail area which is considered "fiery" enough.

Altolamprologus Compressiceps "Kigoma" is considered one of the most attractive among other Compressiceps by most Tanganyika collectors. People who have seen my ex male should know what I'm talking about. From mid of body to top is light brownish gold(like Lager) with orange tip on the dorsal, orange pectoral and orange tail. From mid of body to abdominal, mostly whitish with lots or pearls like those on the bodies of Calvus, also on the dorsal fin, anal fin and tail.

This is the reason why they were selling like hotcakes when they were brought in and I wasn't fast enough to get them at that time as all were sold out very fast during CF's time. I was lucky to have gotten it through Tony's contact from a fellow collector who was giving up all his Tangan collection at that point of time. I bought all of it but as time goes by when I WC, I realized my collection of "Kigomas" dying one after another(I stop doing WC for my "Kigoma" tank.

I approached ectan and he told me about his bad experience with "Kigoma"(also all were gone) and that was when I decided to breed them.

Breeding was relatively easy on my side, I've done it with Calvus "Yellow", "Firefin", "goldheads". But "Kigoma" is the one that spawn the most for me. Four batches of fries in their lifetime with me with a few hundred fries but also the most casualties. I spent more than a year raising them from wrigglers batches, from fries to juveniles stage. I managed to harvest them till half an inch in 1.5ft to 2 ft nursery tanks but when I decide to transfer them to 4ft tank(their parents' tank) at the size of 1/2", problem came. They just started dying from there on, and from so many fries left me with only 1 piece that is still surviving today.

This is my experience with my few batches of "Kigomas".

Any question, please shoot. I'll be happy to help

Ben,
This particular kigoma variant is very sensitive to water change (chlorine). And most of us who kept this variant before lost quite a few to wc.
Except for the above, most comps generally requires about the same level of care & requirement.
hahaha.. i lost how many pieces sia not just to WC.. but also to lack of oxygen ah during power failure.. they are super sensitive to these two components, water parameter and oxygen levels.
but like i said in my opinion,i see they all same level of sensitivity.but now bro EC and FF got keep,so they can give you more feedback, mine long gone liao..

The "dont WC theory" does it apply to all Altolamprologus Compressiceps species?
thanks

Simply said these Kigomas are best kept as single species comm becoz of their sensitivity to water changes?
I cant imagine keeping fish without doing wc unless we have a super duper powerful fitration system
