55w is actually OK. I used to have 72w over my 1.5 footer.
The thing is always, ALWAYS about balance. There isn't any hard and fast rule as to how much one should have. Yes, there is a general range but no definite number. When you hit high lights then you got to make sure that your CO2 as well as your nutrients keep up. The plants' needs are largely determined by the amount of light driving the entire tank. With higher lights, the plants will demand more nutrients and more carbon to substantiate the growth. They don't have a choice to grow fast or slow, they are "automated" by the lights. All in all, what I can tell you is, 55w is fine. If you are worried about the temperate, get a fan or move the lights higher so that it won't be so close to the water. |

yup so for your crs tank, and your plants dont require co2 injection, co2 injection might not be ideal. (also it will cause the ph to be lowered and might have an effect on the shrimps)
so unless youre going for planted tank, i think you wont require such high lights. Its better to have low lights and thus little hassle. |
