ime they like it quite warm about 86-88F and high pH about 7.7 or so.
w/c also about 1/wk. they prefer it quite clean.

yes part of the fun of keeping louhan is learning what your fish responds to, like uncle kaoluo said each has it's own preference

i typically maintain 0. i only add salt 1tbsp/5g every 3-4 months. otherwise i prefer maintain 0 salinity. i believe there is stronger effect when used less frequently.

i also using CC's almost 3 years now and pH still stable about 7.6 or so. but i try to clean off dirt regularly and use large aggregate size so still breaking down slowly for me.
other systems i also used baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to bring up and stabilize pH. careful if using sodium carbonate as it can bring pH up much higher.

In Thailand i focus at Chlorine in the water because it can make my fish die...then i change water 100% every 10 days. But for grow my fish i always follow how to develope of all my batch. The fish size important for tank size too.If tank is big the fish can grow very fast...any question you all can ask me if i know i will share my experience.Thank you
