They do swim up Down can see
Base white u feel de spot more white, side tank black so like only can see white spot like star in de dark sky |

i think it might be due to white tank, if gives a contrast to the ray making it look nicer to watch?just my 2cent.

not just gives contrast,....it really make white or lighter base spots bigger and pattern more outstanding.........but sadly once go back black tank,you know,i know,we all know

IMO rays are like any other fish in the wild. They try to blend into their environment (camouflage). I keep Pearls and think they look terrible on dark substrate as they darken up to match the surroundings.
