I wont keep something that can kill me in a few mins. An escapee can easily do me in.

even if there were freshwater octopuses, they would not be suitable tankmates for anything. you can find cephs in singapore occasionally. last time i saw some was about five months ago, at least 30 specimens. pasir ris.
an oct that i caught at bedok jetty and kept in my marine tank:

it did very well for about a month, very smart animal. needs to be kept occupied. amazing colourchanging ability. it laid eggs and stopped eating after a month. cephalopods naturally have short lifespans and perish after laying.

yes, they will usually die from starvation after guarding their eggs.
