hmm they can reproduce without a mate? so did the eggs hatch?

they cannot, i suspect the animal had already mated before i collected it, happens occasionally. the eggs did hatch. a few hundred tiny octopuses were floating around the tank one morning. however i had to go to school and by the time i got home there weren't any to save.
i was keeping the octopus in my refugium of the reef tank, and the babies were pumped up to the main tank. so when i came home in the evening i came to a bare tank and very fat fish.
also, octopus lay eggs even if they havent mated. i knew my eggs were viable about 5 days in when they started developing eyes.
