Default Coutinho and Lallana set to return to Melwood

Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana will return to Melwood on Tuesday to begin pre-season training.

The Liverpool duo, who enjoyed an extended break due to their respective international commitments earlier in the summer, are set to join up with their teammates as preparations for the 2017-18 campaign continue.

Coutinho and Lallana's returns will leave Emre Can as the only member of Jürgen Klopp's squad yet to start pre-season training.

Can will be back later in July following his participation in Germany's successful Confederations Cup campaign.

We'll once again bring you live coverage from Melwood on Tuesday, so keep an eye on Liverpoolfc.com for exclusive, behind-the-scenes pre-season content you can't see anywhere else.

The Reds will take on Tranmere Rovers in their first pre-season friendly on Wednesday (7.45pm BST kick-off).

Default Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool? The saga may have taken a fresh twist

The Virgil van Dijk saga could have taken a fresh twist, with claims the defender has told Southampton he will ONLY move to Liverpool.

The Dutchman had already detailed his desire to move to Anfield earlier this summer, but the Reds ended their interest and issued a public apology to the Saints.

A club statement in June expressed the club's regret over speculation surrounding the player's future and apologised for “any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk” - just 24 hours after the centre-back seemed set for Merseyside.

But after the Premier League failed to act on Southampton's threat of reporting the Reds for an alleged illegal approach, there is a suggestion Liverpool could be open to negotiating a deal.

Though their next move is unclear, with the South Coast club wanting £75million for their star man, the People suggest van Dijk wants to push through the move he initially thought he would receive this summer.

It claims the 26-year-old has made it clear he wants to play Champions League football under Jurgen Klopp, which would leave new St Mary's boss Mauricio Pellegrino with a dilemma ahead of the new season.

Van Dijk returned to training with his current club earlier this week.

Chelsea and Manchester City were considered rivals to van Dijk's signature, but the London club are closing in on a deal for Roma centre-back Antonio Rudiger.

Default Jürgen Klopp on LFC's goalkeeping options

Having three goalkeepers competing for one starting place can only be beneficial for Liverpool, according to Jürgen Klopp.

Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet will be joined by Danny Ward in pre-season training this summer after the Wales international spent last term on loan with Huddersfield Town and helped the club claim promotion to the Premier League.

Mignolet took control of the position in the second half of 2016-17 and aided the Reds’ push for a Champions League berth by recording four consecutive clean sheets in the closing weeks.

As Klopp oversees preparations for the new season, the trio will each be afforded the same opportunity to impress by a boss who only sees positives in the situation.

“That’s very comfortable for the manager, three really good goalkeepers,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It is like it is and nothing is decided, they can all show how good they are. I don’t want to bring doubt so that they start doubting.

“They are at a fantastic club and a fantastic football club needs fantastic goalkeepers. We had a really good goalkeeping season.

“Yes, it was a little bit difficult for Loris but I’m sure he had his part in the development of Simon, who played a really good season. And Danny played a fantastic season at Huddersfield with a big success at the end.

“We have three goalkeepers and they can all show what they are able to do, and then we will see who will start.”

Default Dominic Solanke joins Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club can announce the signing of Dominic Solanke.

The 19-year-old, who will take the No.29 shirt, joins the Reds following the expiration of his contract with Chelsea.

Solanke*has put the finishing touches to his switch to Anfield in time to join the early stages of preparations for the 2017-18 campaign.

The striker told Liverpoolfc.com: “It feels amazing and everyone has made me feel welcome already.

“Even just pulling on the training top, I was over the moon. Hopefully I can put on the shirt in the near future and make some good history here.”

Solanke*joins the Reds fresh from scoring four goals in England U20s’ successful World Cup campaign this summer.

Arsenal proving a thorn in the Reds' side

Remember when Liverpool pipped Arsenal to fourth on the final day?

What halcyon days.

Not only did it mean the Reds secured Champions League football, but it relegated Arsenal to the Europa League.

Yet after splashing nearly £50million on Alexandre Lacazette, it seems the Gunners are making further waves in the transfer market - and that will impact Liverpool.

Reports today suggest:

They’re becoming increasingly confident Oxlade-Chamberlain will stay
They want Virgil van Dijk at the Emirates

Grrrrrrr. If they bid for Naby Keita, start worrying...
