Bigger Arows eat less ????
Hi
My two arows have very different eating habbits. The older big one, seem to not be so keen on food every day. The younger smaller one though, a silver, seems to want food all the time. Is this a normal thing? Or is it different behavior in these two arows. the big one is a formosa. |

U can say that ...to a certain extent .. more like less frequent? ..
I guess once they have somewhat reached adult size , their food intake is used for maintence , rather than growth .. While a growing Aro will need more food for both growth and maintenace .. same here .. My Adult Aro will eat abt four 4 " prawn abt twice a week .. They will not be interested in food ( cept crickets) the day after... while my juvenile Aros eats abt 1 prawn per day ... |

smaller aros gets hungier faster... ex. to train small aros to accept other foods takes days.. but big aros months or never..

agree.... adult aros eat a lot more less than young ones..... feed until 70% full for adult aro, ok liao.....
for young one, they digest very very fast...... so more frequent feeding is needed..... |

I guess this is a quite common observation from most aro fans here who kept an aro since juvenile. My red used to chomp down 1 x 3" MP when itz much smaller ard 8", now 12" eating less than 3/4 of a MP. But am not sure if itz sick of MPs, cos if feed SWs and frogs... her appetite is amazing, taking ard 12 SWs or 18 small frogs...

big aros eat less..
when arowanas reach a certain size... they seem to lose their big appettites. because growth is slower...
but when still young they need food to grow big |

Not really...it depends on certian cases...my silver and YT is eating more in terms of grams now than it was smaller...lessoned learned for me...the lesser you transfer your aro when its already pre adult the less it will effect factors related to feeding...I learned thru my RTG....

don't be surprised if your big aro starts fasting periodically
but if seen in a positive perspective, it helps to save $$$ |

It is true that adult aros eat less often than small ones. My SR at 23" can survive comfortably on a once or twice weekly feeding. But it seem like it can still grow a few more inches in my koi pond.
On the other hand, my RTG at 15" still has a long way to go. Still eats twice a day and amount exceeds what my SR consume. Regards, |
