Dont understand the argument against LTA.
There is no EV fine perse. The 15K is the surcharge for CO2 emission. As above other EV cars no need pay this 15k. Electric vehicles no need to pump petrol but need to "charge" electricity. Powergrid electricity uses coal/gas which also has CO2 emission. Hence EV are taxed base on this CO2 emission. The electrical energy the EV uses per kilometer is used to determine how much CO2 emission is accrued to the car. This is a very high performance model 0 to 100 in 2.8 seconds, all wheel drive, obscene total engine power. Its build for performance, not economy. Testing the kwh (fuel) consumption is rather straight forward. Put in a kwh meter and drive the car around some distance. Dont understand this backlash against LTA. |

I think the backlash is why is the progress for green vehicle is so slow compared to other countries. To think that we are a developed country, technology should be moving ahead but somehow the feeling is that the green movement is not really moving.

So many countries in the world are giving incentives and grants to ELECTRIC CAR, which I believe Tesla is, but yet Singapore is doing the reverse. Even countries like China and India, not to mention Europe or UK or US.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Govern...ctric_vehicles The reason given by our government that CO2 is generated while producing electricity is pure rubbish. Even making of Solar Panels emits CO2. So additional tax needs to be added for using solar panels? What is our government talking? |

takes 20 years to break even on your investment to install solar panels and no, the solar panels u install are not guaranteed to last 20 years ... |

if driving a normal car and driving a Tesla model S, which car will result in more CO2 into the environment? Just as not all petrol driven cars are the same, not all EV cars are the same. Some EV cars are designed for economy eg those from India or mass market from Jap etc but this model S Tesla has something like 500hp or more motors. They are not really economy cars nor environmentally friendly. I am no fan of LTA but will not fault them for the wrong reasons. 2 cents Last edited by richardg; 06-03-2016 at 08:27 AM. |

An ADDITIONAL TAX for a supposed to be "clean" electric car (compared to petrol run cars) should be given incentives and not additional tax. As said look at the various grants given by other countries and we can know whether our government is doing the correct thing. Better still, lets find a second country that impose additional tax for electric cars.... |

so shld we charge co2 emission tax for charging a phone?
of course not, everything needs electricity but this Tesla was tested to consume 444watt-hour/km. Means that if run 50km per day or about 1000 km per month. Energy consumption for this car per month is 444kwh per month. This is about we is used in a house with aircon ( including fridge and many phone charging) This is a high energy consumption super-car that guzzles power and emit a lot of CO2, to compare with other users of electricity is like saying phone and model S uses same amount of electricity which is clearly flawed. Other EV cars qualify for CO2 rebates. == From this, it was determined that Mr Nguyen's Tesla produced 222g/km of CO2, putting it within the $15,000 surcharge band under Singapore's Carbon Emission- based Vehicle Scheme. The LTA applied this grid factor once previously to an electric Peugeot Ion (a subcompact hatchback), and it was granted a carbon rebate of $20,000. The BMW i3 electric hatchback and i8 plug-in hybrid both qualify for a $30,000 carbon rebate. === Quote:
