MP that we've seen in the wet market ($8-10), greyish color... are pond raised. And I believe its fresh water pond. So it might be suitable for rays. BUT.. with any commercially raised prawn/fish.. they are fed with pellet and the pond itself might be conditioned with a lot of chemical.

This also goes with those fish fillet (sutchi).

most of my bigger rays also take kunning head. but some only chew and spit out the mess. i think it depends on the individual ray too. i only feed them once a day, sometimes once every 2/3 days. getting lazy now

How big is your ray? Food plays a part in growth as well as water perimeter n tank size. My bd grow avout 0.5 inch per mth.

Those grey MP r not fresh water prawn, but they can survive in Brackish water, so call hardy prawn & thats y v popular with farmers.

Grey prawn that came fr malaysia or nearby countries, mostly farm in pond filled with sea water but farmers allowed rain water to dilute cos the prawn can take it & they do not wan to let in new conteminated seawater. In China u may be able to find farmers farming them in pond filled with more fresh water due to location limitation.

It is also true that these farmed prawn r fed with lots of antibiotics and also water r treated with lots of antibiotics. Thats y we r advised not to eat the head. In taiwan, rays breeders don feed their rays with prawn head, but in sg, I heard pple saying feed prawn head v gd for rays. Well, I hv no comments but I think fr common sense we kn the ans wat is gd. Thats y I prefer fresh water ghost shrimp caught fr wild, safer.
