Liverpool look to seal a deal for Xherdan Shaqiri as transfer discussions opened
Liverpool are looking to seal a deal to make Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri their third new signing of the summer.
The Reds have opened discussions with the Potters, who are resigned to losing the Switzerland international following their relegation to the Championship. Shaqiri, who has a release clause which means he can leave Stoke for around £13.5million, has been considering his options since his involvement in Russia was ended at the last 16 stage by Sweden last week. The ECHO understands that the 26-year-old, who is currently on holiday, favours a move to Anfield and Stoke expect him to complete the switch to Liverpool . Stoke hope that doing business with the Reds will help them to land one of Jurgen Klopp's talented youngsters on loan this season. They are one of a dozen Championship clubs who have already registered their interest in Harry Wilson. They have also enquired about the availability of fellow winger Sheyi Ojo. Shaqiri has made it clear that he wants to stay in the Premier League and said recently: “You are going to hear soon on my future. “I was not thinking about this because I was just focused on my national team and wanted to make a good tournament for my team and my nation. It’s pretty normal to be aware of clubs being interested. “Of course, I would like to play on the biggest stage in football. Everybody knows that.” Shaqiri joined Stoke from Inter Milan three years ago. He started his career at boyhood club Basel before moving on to Bayern Munich in 2012. |

Liverpool FC launch new 2018-19 New Balance third kit
Liverpool FC and New Balance have today launched the team's third kit for the 2018-19 season with the help of a virtual squad in a world-first. Working together with club partners New Balance and Konami, the kit has officially been revealed via an exclusive preview of Pro Evo 19 footage of Jürgen Klopp’s men wearing the new kit, ahead of the new game’s release in August. Fans can get a virtual glimpse of their favourite players walking out onto the field for the first time sporting the new strip that features a grey violet body and a steel gradient print - making LFC the first club to use PES video game graphics to launch a new jersey.
The 2018-19 third kit pays homage to fan favourite kits from 1987-91, particularly the Reds’ strip from the historic 1989-90 season, when Kenny Dalglish’s side became First Division champions for the 18th time. The jersey also features racing red detail on the shoulder panels, a red crest and NB logo, as well as a crew neck collar with insert. |

The goalkeeper third shirt has been engineered in line with the outfield players’ jerseys and is a bold pink glo with black patterned sleeves and black embroidered logo and crest. The kit is completed with pink glo shorts and socks, with a black cuff to the lower sock.
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane said: “We had a strong campaign in 2017-18, and we already can’t wait for the new season to begin. I’m really looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch and playing in the kit - it’s a really strong look.” |

Lovren hails Croatia's historic World Cup achievement
Dejan Lovren made history with Croatia on Wednesday night but wants to rewrite it immediately by helping his country lift the World Cup. Zlatko Dalic’s team ended England’s pursuit of glory at the tournament in Russia with a 2-1 victory against the Three Lions after extra-time at Luzhniki Stadium. Lovren and his compatriots, who have already surpassed the nation’s best World Cup run to third place in 1998, will now face France in Sunday’s final. “This is something we will never forget. People are crying. It’s something historical for us,” the Liverpool defender said. “We will never forget this. We beat our record from 20 years ago. We’ve had this weight on our shoulders all the time, and now people will never forget us. “We have the chance to do something better, and hopefully we can do it on Sunday.” Croatia played extra-time for the third successive knockout match, having previously beaten Denmark and hosts Russia on penalties. Kieran Trippier had put England ahead with an early free-kick but Ivan Perisic levelled after the break and Mario Mandzukic sealed the turnaround in the 109th minute. “It was a tough first half. We couldn’t control the ball or control situations,” said Lovren. “They had also good chances, but second half we did it much, much better. In extra-time we showed we are still able with the fatigue to play our game.” |
