Default extracting ketanpang essences tutorial wif lots of pix!!!

ok bros.... today i extracted ketanpang juice frm my harvested k leaves. so i've decided to make a tutorial along the way

reasons for using the extract instead of putting k leaves.

- convenient to store
- the hot water will kill any harmful bacterial present as the leaves may carry it.
- can extract more than just plain soaking in the tank. less wastage of leaves!
- need not worry bout rotting leaves
- i din use boiling water as i feel that it may spoil the essence due to high temps or over heating.

Pick those beautiful not torn k leaves =) wash it clean n placed it under sunlight to dry.

In a few days once they dried off, the leaves will be crispy brown n v easy to crush them.

Take the leaves n crush them into small pieces. notice how easy they break??

Place the crush leaves into a glass container. (about 3 medium size for mine)

Add hot water to the container n cap it. *warning* do not add those boiling hot water from the kettle into the glass container as u may crack the glass! the intense heat may also spoil the essence of the extract. hot water wif some steam is enf =)

Let the water settle for about an hour n the solution should be dark brownish in colour. the solution should still be slightly warm.

Using a swivel n funnel, filter n pour the extract into the desire container. using a paper filter at this stage would be good too.

Notice the k leaf after extraction?? areas between the veins have turn lighter in colour??? this shows that the brownish essences has been extracted out!

And there u have it... k water take a smell at the k extract, its smells like tea!!!! no wonder the fish loves it!

hope this tutorial was helpful =)
