New set up initially will have brown algae (Diatom) I experience brown algae on my bacteria house media and slightly inside my tank. I left the bacteria house alone...and my two small 3" FF cleaned up those inside my tank but nothing major and of concern. When tank was fully cycled within two weeks I notice those brown algae started to die and my bacteria house started to turn white again. In my tank they r there along my silicone tank joint. I have a magnet tank cleaner for mopping up very minor algae on the glass tank...every 2-3 days. All these time water is crystal clear and zero green algae problem. Tank is hit by morning east sun from 10am - 11am+...sunlight will come directly overhead and covers about 30% of the tank's length. Notice most of the XB and my rays will gather around the sun lit area of the tank...seems they like it. From 2/3pm onwards to 5pm+ tank will be hit by strong west sun (I mean really strong...stand there will sweat like pig)...and the whole 9ft length of tank will be lit by the setting sunlight by about 5pm. Take a look...taken 3pm. Closed up...this one about 330pm PS: can see the slight bacteria or algae growth on the bottom of the pic along the silicone Last edited by vic; 17-09-2011 at 06:05 PM. |

As can see...water is crystal clear...aro seems to be flying among the leaves.
No algae whatsoever...and I dun use UV light nor any chemical. Only a small cap of Prime added for aging water. Incidentally my upper 4ft used for aging water...got plenty of green spot algae...this tank wasnt exposed to any direct sunlight and water is straight from tap. |
