Demise of PDR. Inputs please
Hi Bros,
Hope to get some inputs from bros about rays. My PDR motionless this morning. Im an aro keeper. Recently (wednesday) I got a PDR as a gift from a business colleague.. Purchase it from Qianhu. Brought it home and free it into my fish tank. Proper water acclimatization was done to introduce the ray into the tank. After a while, started eating some MP. Thursday was fine, Ray was eating both in the morning and at night. Small water change was done after feeding. Added anti chlorine and black water as top up. Friday morning still eating. At night something wrong. Notice there seem to be a film like mucus that has peel of from the top of the ray's skin. Ray was breathing rapidly. Added some yellow powder as recommended by Qianhu. I know she wun last long. This morning wake up, ray become motionless. Question: What went wrong? Have read up about how to keep a ray. Water parameter is fine. Have been keeping so many aros for more than 12 years. Is ray really that difficult to keep as compared to aro? Any inputs / advice appreciated. Really upset about the loss.. She was really a beautiful ray at 7 inch... |

Most likely was an ammonia or ph burn unless you have an exposed heater in your tank. If there was rays will lay on/beside them causing very serious burns which could lead to death

Bro, so sorry about that lost. I feel it's the black water that is causing ph plunge and ESP after feeding w waste produce plus black water. Ray n arowanas diff, rays r extra sensitive.

only two possibility, ammonia shock or ph burn.
the ray eats because she must be darn hungry,we dont expect the ray to be fed full everyday in those big commercial farm. so after the initial feeding, the truth start to happen either from the ammonia shock or ph burn. healthy ray can withstand terrible physical damages and can go for wks without food but cannot tahan ammonia or ph attack which normally lead to secondary infection, and die within hours or just few days. |

To all Aro keepers,.... pls don't aspect your ray to adept to your Aro kind of Water quality (parameter) instead let e Aro adept to the ray required type of Water quality than it should be ok cheers.

Sorry to hear your loss.
I think it could be nitrate level. If PH shock, should not survive 1st night. What is the yellow powder contents? Sorry i never used it before so need to ask. |

What other tankmates are inside the tank bro?
Were they harrassing the new ray and causing undue stress to it? |

Direct salt input into your thank after water changes might be 1 of e reasons that causes your ray to lose it's slime n eventually leads to death within a few days.. Really sorry to hear your lost..
