How to make Java fern flourish?

Have read that Java fern is a easy plant with low requirements. However if you pump the plant with nutrients and CO2 will it kill the plant?

Would like to ask the experts on how to make the plant flourish. Worried that I might over do it and kill the plant instead.

Indeed it is a easy plant without co2 & enough lighting the plant will survive.
If u have co2 n strong lighting even better & keep temp cool with fan.
What plant you intend to keep with java fern & it is a fully planted tank?

it propagates by leaf cutting. u will see shoot buds at the leaves where new plants will grow from. i think u cut and tie to dw and wait for it to grow can liao. if u balance ur light, co2 and fert input, it should not be killing ur plant in anyway. afterall, java fern is quite a hardy plant.

Read somewhere that too much light will cause the plant to 'burn', is that true?

All plants love co2 and nutrients. Thats what they need to flourish. As for burning of plants. Under high lighting, yes they do get " sun burned" by turning reddish. But not all plants will turn red.

Its a misconception.

Java fern is a hardy plant because it can tolerate and grow slowly in a low light environment without placing demands on CO2 and nutrients. Not the other way around where it can only survive in a low light environment.

With high lights, just increase your CO2 (make sure it is stable and well circulated) and nutrients to balance everything off.

Alot of people pump more than 4wpg in their tanks with java ferns inside. They sprout like weed.

Burning usually occurs in tandem with high temperatures, but there is no emperical proof yet I guess. Don't worry about burning if you can balance things well.

Well that makes sense.

Low temp really make them nicer.

Low light actually slow down the growth and make maintanence easier.
