Default Genetic history of present day crossbacks

Hi, all bros, with the permission of a close and equally crazy buddy, I am posting a brief research article on the AROWANA written by him here to be shared and to be discussed and deliberated on. Feel free to give your opinions, comments and inputs. This article has been posted in other websites as well.

GENETIC HISTORY OF PRESENT DAY CROSSBACKS

XBack and Highback are in fact all of the same breed originally. All are known as Malaysian Gold. The difference is XB is processed through very selective breeding by using only the parent fishes with high shine or crosses on the 6th level for a number of generations to maintain and standardize the strain. Therefore, occasionally, it is bound to have throw-backs in XB. The pure bred XBs normally take 3 to 5 years to have 6th level crossed under ideal environment. In order to speed up the crossing on the 6th level on the juveniles to promote better sale and meet high demand with better profit, hybridization by the using of the cross-breeding of XB or MG and Super Red esp. Chili Red come into play. As most Red Aros are naturally and fully crossed at 6th level at very young age, the introduction of its genes make the hybridized juvenile XBs cross faster to the extent of, for some at only around a year old. In order to bring out the naturally intense golden shine, the Red Tailed Golden from Indo was used too.(This is how 24K's metallic golden shines come from)

The first few filial generations of this hybridizations are known as Tong Yan (TY) or *******. Hybridization also emphasizes on not only the crossing on 6th level, but also the fine pearly, color, the body size, enlarging of tail and finnages, and spoon head. This is also how the Golden Heads and Full Helmets are created. Of course, most professional aro breeders are very selective in the using of the hybrids or *******S to improve their next generation. They would use only those hybrids blended more toward XB or MG i.e. with more gold intensity as breeders. This is how the famous high end breeds such as Golden Head, Full Helmet, 24K, Sapphire, Emerald, Rose Gold, Merlion, Electric Blue, Gold Bar, Full Gold, Albino, Platinum, Panda Golds etc,etc are created by the top farms in the region to cater for the market demand for beauty.

High-Backs comes from crosses between MG and RTG. Pure RTG's shine should not over 4th level but it has the best golden shine among all aros. Pure MG has crosses between 5th and 6th level but gold intensity cannot match RTG.

Remember, the originally pure bred MGs are very rare now. They cannot be as beautiful and to be compared to what the XBs we have in the market now. They have bullet heads, smaller tail and finnages, smaller size, shine hardly crosses 6th level, the gold intensity is also lesser. In fact, those High Backs with bullet heads and small tail and finnages are the ones with genes most closest to the pure bred MG from the wild. We can never have a 100% pure bred MG having spoon head, large tail and finnages, full 24K gold color with Full Helmet.

Also be advised that since the present famous strains of XBs are hybrids, so you do not expect all the offspring come out the same. Some fries may even turn out to look more like Super Reds or RTG. It is going to take still a long time to stabilize the strain.
