PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has refuted a viral message on social media claiming that all Singaporean-registered vehicles entering peninsular Malaysia must register with the department's "Vehicle Entry Permit" (VEP) system . The viral message on WhatsApp and social media sites urged people to register their vehicles from May 1 if they intend to bring their foreign-registered vehicle into the country to vote during the general election. "JPJ denies this viral message. People are urged to not be influenced and believe such irresponsible claims," it said in a statement on Sunday (April 22). It added that the VEP mechanism was still in the testing and system confirmation stage to ensure stability before it was being implemented. JPJ also stressed that it currently had no restrictions towards any vehicles from overseas or from Singapore entering without a registration permit or a VEP. "Any further information relating to the enforcement of the VEP system will be announced from time to time," it said.
