Default Sudden interest in shrimp keeping.

As always, seeking the advises from experienced owners here before deciding to venture into it.

Any good low maintain and starter shrimps etc?

Depends what you like.. Usually shrimps need cold water... but neos are an exception, they can do well in normal temperature but not too hot

Do Cherry Shrimps need chiller? I threw 10 peices into an algae infested 5ft tank that gets direct sunlight most mornings.
No water change, just top up, no feeding at all, the last time I topped up water I counted about 100peices of those with red/orange colour and this excludes the baby ones that have no colour yet.

Cherry are tough. I keep mine in an aquarium and the temperature is sometimes above 30 degrees also no problem. I keep the blue version.

Hmm, thanks for all the replies folks! Sorry for not replying.

Hmm I'd prefers without chillers. I've seen some in Chinatown's LFS which are Black and White but I am still too worried about keeping shrimps.

Prefers with mosses, maybe?

Those black and white that you see, might be under BDS, black diamond shrimp or King Kongs, which are both under Caridinas.

My rule of thumb is, Caridinas need cooler water, Neocaridinas do not need.

That being said, i have seen people keeping caridinas without cool water. Shrimps survive, but do not really thrive, ie, breeding, moulting and growing.
