Default Fans want Daniel Sturridge to be given another chance at Liverpool

Liverpool fans believe that Daniel Sturridge should be given another chance at Liverpool according to an ECHO poll.

The 28-year-old striker endured a torrid time on loan at West Bromwich Albion during the second half of last season – failing to score in any of his six outings as the Baggies suffered relegation from the Premier League.

However, after returning to the Reds side on Saturday as a half-time substitute, Sturridge netted twice in the second half in a 7-0 rout at sixth-tier Chester.

The player, who looked strong and fit, was praised by manager Jurgen Klopp, who declared: “I saw a lot of good things from Daniel.

“He can still do more to impress me but I know about his quality.

“He's had a very positive week and today he looked really good. We started playing football when he was involved. That's how it is.”

Sturridge himself turned to social media to proclaim on Instagram : “Nice to be back in an Lfc shirt with a win and some goals. Just the beginning.”

It seems that Reds fans concur, as in an ECHO poll attracting over 4,000 votes so far , asked “Should Sturridge be given another chance at Liverpool”, 59% say “Yes – he's a top class striker when fit” compared to 41% for “No – he's too injury prone.”

There you go, that's more emphatic than a Brexit majority in a EU membership referendum!

Default Brazilian youngster set for another loan move away from Liverpool

Liverpool youngster Allan Rodrigues de Souza has flown to America with Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of a potential loan move to the Bundesliga club.

The 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder will train with Adi Hutter's squad in Salt Lake City before a decision is made about his future. He could feature in their friendlies against Real Salt Lake and Philadelphia Union.

Eintracht sporting director Bruno Hübner said: “He wants to take the opportunity to show what he can do.”

Liverpool are preparing to loan Allan out once again as he's still not eligible for a work permit to play in the UK. He has recently returned to fitness after undergoing shoulder surgery earlier this year.

Allan joined Liverpool in a £500,000 deal from Internacional in his homeland in the summer of 2015.

He had spells with Finnish side SJK, Sint-Truiden of Belgium and Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin before heading to Apollon Limassol last season. He made 16 appearances for the Cypriot outfit before injury cut short his season.

Work permit rules were tightened for non-European Union players back in 2015. Points are awarded for various criteria including the transfer fee, wages, international caps, the level of the club they are coming from and whether a player has featured in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes.

Hendo Hailed

Stuart Pearce reckons Jordan Henderson is the real leader of England’s World Cup squad.

The midfielder - who was overlooked for the captain’s armband in favour of Harry Kane by Gareth Southgate - has been hailed for his role in guiding the Three Lions to a first major semi-final since 1990.

“Kane is the more silent captain,” the former England captain and manager - who gave the Liverpool skipper the armband at U21 level during his time in charge - said. “Henderson is the one pointing and telling people from the centre of midfield what they should and shouldn’t do.

“I think he potentially, if you asked the players, they look up to Harry Kane and what he’s done and the goals he has scored, but the influence that Henderson has got will be massive in that group.

“Why was he my captain? Because he is totally selfless to the group – he puts the group before himself and that is a great trait for any captain, any leader.”

Default LFC team news update for Tranmere clash

Adam Lallana returns to the Liverpool squad for tonight's pre-season friendly with Tranmere Rovers but Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum will not be involved.

After kicking off their summer schedule with a 7-0 win at Chester FC on Saturday, the Reds are back in action at Prenton Park at 7.30pm BST – and you can watch the whole match live on LFCTV and LFCTV GO.

Lallana is available for the short trip after sitting out the weekend’s game to do extra sessions at Melwood having missed a few days of the opening week of training with illness.

This match comes too soon for Van Dijk and Wijnaldum, however, who only returned to pre-season training on Sunday morning due to international commitments with the Netherlands at the end of last term.

The Dutch pair will benefit from further sessions at Melwood and then be in consideration for Saturday’s friendly with Bury, while Joel Matip is also on course to feature in the same fixture as he builds up fitness after injury.

Danny Ings, who was on target against Chester, is a doubt for the clash with Tranmere due to severe blisters.

Academy goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will be part of the squad.

Default Klopp delighted to tie down 'finisher' Wilson

Jürgen Klopp has explained how Harry Wilson's 'exceptional' development in recent seasons prompted Liverpool to move quickly in tying him down to a new contract.

And the Reds boss is looking forward to seeing how a player he believes possesses rare finishing skills continues to improve in the coming years at Anfield.

The Wales international, who flourished during a short-term loan stay with Hull City last season, put pen to paper on fresh terms with Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon.

Asked about the news ahead of a friendly meeting with Tranmere Rovers, Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: "Harry's development in the last few years is really exceptional so of course we had to keep the boy!

"Now we see what we do with that, but it's really good that his long-term future is, for sure, at Liverpool.

"He's a finisher, which is the most difficult thing to learn, he has the nose for a goal if you want.

"[It's] good news."

Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on young Liverpool trio as Reds survive second-half Tranmere fightback

Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for youngsters Rafa Camacho, Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent during Liverpool's 3-2 friendly win over Tranmere Rovers.

Portugal youth international Camacho opened the scoring with a fine finish before Ojo hammered home the second.

Kent also caught the manager's eye during an opening 45 minutes which saw Liverpool race into a 3-0 lead before standards slipped in the second half.

Wingers Ojo and Kent returned to the club this summer after loan spells at Fulham and Bristol City respectively.

"Rafa did really well, especially in a position he's not used to," Klopp said.

"He played for Stevie (Gerrard) a few times as a wing-back but tonight he was a full-back.

"I liked it. He's full of football joy and is doing really well.

"It's the same for Ojo and Ryan. Maybe not the best last year but they came back here wanting to show something and they have done that so far. It's all good."

Mistakes from Loris Karius and Pedro Chirivella enabled Tranmere to pull two goals back after the break but Klopp was content after seeing 22 players get a run out.

"There were a lot of good things, apart from the goals. Everything was pretty much good," he added.

"In the second half we were not that ruthless but we created a lot, came in the space and played good football

"In the last third we weren't as good as in the first half but until then it was pretty good. The first half was good and we had more chances.

"Conceding the goals wasn't nice but 3-2 is the situation, no-one injured and everyone had 45 minutes intensity which is what we wanted."

Micky Mellon's Tranmere side did themselves proud and Klopp says he values having a close bond with their neighbours.

"It's why we do it. This was the third year in a row here," he said.

"With Chester and Tranmere we have to pay a bit back as we play in their stadium with youth teams.

"The pitch here is really good. It's around the corner and we have a good relationship.

"I thought that every year we would play for the John Achterberg Cup but nobody liked that idea!

"Saturday is Bury away which is around the corner too I'm told."

Shaqiri Talks Held

Liverpool have opened talks with Stoke City over the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri.

It was reported late last night that the Swiss international - who represented his country at this summer’s World Cup - possesses a relegation release clause which is believed to be around the £12m mark.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to add depth to his attacking options at Anfield and has been linked with the winger all summer.

James Pearce also revealed yesterday that Klopp has no interest in signing Paulo Dybala and fresh talks with Lyon over the transfer of Nabil Fekir are yet to be held.
