I don't use medication as I've very bad experience with it and almost wiped out my tetra community.

What I did was to increase the temperature slowly. The spots dry and drop off at about 30 degrees.

Increasing the temperature for a duration of about a week and a half till the ick dries and drop off is fine for plants. Hardly can notice any ill effects. But I won't say the same for the cherries. Probably can only suggest you to either isolate the tetras or the cherries, anyway you'll to isolate the problem before it spreads like wild fire.

Just to clarify, are we talking about small white spots or one big white spot (like pimple) on tetras, near the tail there?

If it's the latter and warmer water temperature would cure the tetras, I might give it a shot. I have one or two cardinals with this condition. I have cherries too, but I guess warmer temps for a week should be alright...

No medication ?? No way, it will spread like fire. Use Waterlife PROTOZIN, follow instruction, day 1, 2, 3 & 4after 4 days/dosage, white spot nearly all cleared, day 6, do water charge and do last dosage.

Good Luck !

some of my tetra did get some white spots, i just put in about 1/4 teaspoon of normal table salt for 2 consecutive days in a 1ft tank and it cleared by the 3rd day.

no heater no special meds.. just salt.

*your results may vary... :P
