Smile Improvisations and Idiosyncracies

Let's share our personal methods & DIY improvisations here.

Enlarge siphon suction inlet surface area : oblong instead of round hose end.
Decrease suction force if fish body comes near inlet, less injurious.

Cut slanted at 45 degrees angle.

For planted with small fishes/shrimplets, protective barrier netting tied around inlet.

For planted tank water change refilling, to lessen scape disruption and substrate churn I tamper force of water return with water bottle that has holes.

Hi Bro, do you have any idea of diy a way to siphon tank surface? As I lazy to manually holding and shifting the tube at surface and at the same time trying to break the siphon.

Just make a small 2 to 5 mm hole about 2 inches from hose end, the venturi effect will suction in the surface layer while your hose still under water not breaking the siphon.

I make one this weekend n show you.

Actually i got another type of cutting for hose suction inlet that does ckear surface scum.
Basically a serrated zig zag edge instead of clean flat cut.
Will video how it works when free.

Overflow conversion to underflow.
Good improvisation for feeding floating pellets.

Added recycled pep bottles as external tube for underflow.
Pep bottles top at higher level than tank water level.

Triangle cut outs at bottom of pep bottle.

This the jagged hose end for scum surface siphon during water change.
Angle the hose about 30 degrees at surface of water.

Will take video when free.

Haven't done the venturi mod yet.
Shall update when i get to it.
