New pump wattage 150W if old pump (with worn parts ) can go up to 280W.

Better use back Tsurumi pump, I have 6 units and have no problems for more than 5 years.

one of my tsurumi KOed after just 7 months while the other unit is still fine
I took it as I was a bit suay. had a 'lemon' unit. haha

I replaced it with the same model.
as another bro here mentioned, its for the ease of not having to change the pipes

side topic, how long have tsurumi pumps been around?
and how long have you use yours for?

are they one of the better pumps to go for now, in terms of reliability and value for money
or it's just what most pond builders will recommend now?

It is recommended that pump don't keep switching on/off so that they will last longer...

I have my Tsurumi 40PU for almost 3yrs already, everyday on/off to pump water from my aging tank.. Still works fine!

For Air pump, I prefer Medo over highblow.. Medo is piston drive (highblow is diaphragm) and I have not serviced it for over 5yrs, only changed the air filter wool 3times... Still running fine..

Check the piping to the pump.

Tsunami pipe size is 50 mm and need about 3 ft of 50 mm as straight pipe upward before it can be reduce to smaller piping size. This is to prevent back pressure to the pump. IMHO.
