After the fish is knocked out (it is not dead), put it in a bag of water and put the bag in the freezer after saying your good byes.

Clove oil is to knock the fish out. Knock out, not kill it.

Freezer is to complete the process without the fish feeling the pain of the ice crystal forming in its body as it slowly freezes to death.

I don't want to start the 'whether-it-is-humane' debate but I thought I would just mention it here.

This is what i will do.

Lower the water level. Put a small filter inside to create a mild current and without food for awhile..

A good thought for your fish. Nice to be your fish.

i think different fish react differently to the same SBD treatment.
i have one tht never seems to recover from SBD. then one flips over for a couple of hours. then i did a WC plus some peas. then within an hour, she's ok liao. =)
but still to play safe, these few dinners i will feed them peas.

Through my experience

1- Lower water level. Imo 1ft is good
2 - Use equilibrium salt (baxter 1 is good which cost 6.50 at polyart. Note that this isnt the ordinary aquarium salt which many lfs and users are confusing with)
3- Stop feeding until condition improves.
4. Once condition improves, presoak pellets as a precaution.
