Me i have replace CR and other media to K1 media currently my old setup is still having CR mix with K1 media. Once i reset i will also be changing to K1 media.

For me wish to eliminate the unknown critiria.

My new setup is

Ehiem classic 3/4 fill -> prefilter 1/2 fill k1 media.

Initiate start might be slow that what i find but once it start to roll most of the k1 media would be coated meaning it starts skin instead of floating.

I think it is good for shrimp keeper cause our bioload is not as much as keeping fishes.

So that is my own cents of opinion major recent to eliminate wanted problem like raising of PH or GH etc.

i just improvise a CO2 reactor to put the k1 media in. then turn the reactor around where the air will bubble from the bottom instead.

I'm thinking of stuffing K1 media into a TOTTO bubble stopper, cover the bottom opening of the bubble stopper with a mesh that'll stop the K1 from falling back out, and using that as a K1 filter?

Here's my K1 implementation:

It works on my hawaiian shrimp tank coupled with sponge filter, basically it is haiwaiian shrimplets friendly.
