Default Blood Parrot/ King Kong Parrot Mouths

Just to share the various parrot mouth shape

Most normal bp got triangle mouth
Cant close and cant bite. Just bump around and perhaps scratch other fishes.

Smiling Mouth
Seen in some kkp and some normal bp
Cannot fully close and cant bite. Just bump around and perhaps scratch other fishes.

Can see the teeth? But cant bite

Close Mouth
Can bite you and other fishes because the mouth can close.

Cant bite, can bite, can bite.

When i free i try to take better pics of smiling mouths.

But I hope this thread shows clearly why some parrot fish cant cause much damage to tank mates, due to the shape and restriction of bite of their mouth. IIf this is not logic then i do not know what is logic. The mouth shape of this hybrid cichlid is another aspects which drives cichlid purists mad as well.

open mouth variety...
when they fight..
at most a bit of scratches..
can see the 'beak' area.. turn a bit white..

but when the closed mouth type.. its a typical cichlid mouth tug of war....

Thanks for your info.

Your logic definitely make sense.

Once I was "attacked" by a open mouth parrot. He was like pushing his mouth on my hand. Can feel its teeth but not much damage done unlike those closed mouth parrots. Bitten by closed mouth parrot will left a long scratch marks machiam like Jaws.
