One quick way to differentiate Lionhead and buffalo:
Lionhead tends to have a overall 'cauliflower' kind of headgrowth. Buffalo head tends to have a clear seperation between the crown and the cheeks growth. The one on the top is a buffalo head and the one on the bottom is Lionhead. |

For beginner,I suggest you keep the cheapest ranchu you can find. Below $10 type. Because a good Buffalo or lionchu can fetch a price of $60 and above.
for me,I keep the cheap ones first. after keeping it for 6 months with no diseases or sickness and got the hang of doing regular water changes,I then move on to the slightly expensive ones. |

Bro,I gave them up for adoption. this way,I hope to encourage the newbie to keep ranchu/gf. But I'm worried if the fishes end up at the wrong hand. :/
