Default having difficulties swimming downward

hi bros,

got a question, I noticed my juvenile fishes start to have difficulties swimming downward, and will float easily back to the top, especially after feeding. everything else is fine, they are feeding well and active. I wonder if I got it wrong in feeding or feed too much, but usually I feed until they are belly is rounded then I stop. I wonder if any bros have such an issue.

thanks,
Dave

You are overfeeding. For feeding, what matters are quantity.Quality much not be a lot at every feeding...This way, your guppies will grow faster. The reason why your guppy float is due to too much food in the stomach. Most probably you fed commercial fish food right?

Your guppies can survive days without food. So feed less... Just imagine eating buffet every meal. Same logic

bro vannel, ya. Thanks for your correction. Anyway , do not feed too much at each time.Feed a little bit can already. This way , you will be able to feed your fishes many times a day.

Waaa.... Bro Dave, sometime too much of a buffet meal on a daily basis do more harm than gd like what Bro Vannel said.

Try to feed them lightly. If you feel feeding at periodic intervals is the only time where you can have regular interaction with your guppies, then I would suggest you adopt 1 day as a "No Feeding Day". This will give your guppies time to digest/detox their body.

I believe it's not the brand of food but the overfeeding that's causing the problem.

I personally advocate live BBS twice a day, with a supplement of BSE. When the fries is about a week or two, then switch to small dose of tubi.

hi bro

I think GupFan is corect. Overfeeding, especially with dried food, can cause the stomach to bloat & once that happens, it's hard to cure.

With regards to the type of dried food, from my experience, it does not really matter. I find the so-called specialised guppy food very expensive. What I did was to buy the big pellets (a combination of red & green ones- the green ones are supposed to contain spiralina) used for feeding louhan or goldfish ($4-5 per 1 kg pack). Then I use the mortar (the type used to pound chilli) to break them down. I have been feeding my guppies this for more than 3 months already & there are no problems. When you pound, make sure everything is completely dry otherwise the food will stick together & spoil.

To illustrate how much cost-savings - a 1 kg pack of louhan pellets is equivalent to about 8 bottles of those micro pellets ($4 per bottle).

Hey... sama sama. I use the mortar to pound big pellets of dry food to save cost. I then add BSE in the mix to improve the nutrients level.

But like someone once said, feed dry food to keep gups alive, feed live food to make gups grow... I personally feed a combination of both dry and live food to provide some variety.
